Dutch Braid Me Pretty

Today's post is teaching you how to Dutch Braid (aka the Inverse Braid). The difference between the French and Dutch braid is in a French braid, the strands of hair go inwards. In a Dutch braid, the middle strand goes out. It sounds confusing, but I will make it easier to understand below. I like the Dutch braid because it looks 3D, and is super fun and cute. Here it goes. Enjoy!

Start with the hair down and tangle-free. With a comb, divide hair from part line down to ear. (For this hairstyle I would do a left side part, not a middle part so you have more hair to braid.) Pull back the hair that will not be braided with a clip or ponytail so it is out of your way while you braid.
Divide the hair into three equal strands.

Take the MIDDLE section and braid it OUTWARD over the section closest to the forehead. Then take the new MIDDLE section and braid it over the other outside section. For the first braid, don't add hair in. Do a normal dutch braid first.

Now grab hair that is not in braid yet, and add it to each section as you braid the MIDDLE section over each outside strand. *Remember* Only grab hair from the hair you set aside from the braid. If you pull from other parts, the braid will turn out weird.

Keep braiding until you get to the bottom of the hair, and secure with a clear elastic. Down below are some ways you can finish this hairstyle:

1)Take out the hair that was clipped back. Pin the braid under the hair and leave it down. *For a more dressed up and fun look, crimp or curl the hair. *

2) Braid the dutch braid into a regular braid, down your neck. If the Dutch braid feels like it is going to fall out of the other braid, then put in a bobby pin that matches your hair color to hold it in.

3) Braid the bottom like #2. Then shape the braid into a bun, and pin. Pin down the bun really good so the bun lays flat, not bulgy.

4) Pull the Dutch braid and hair into a low ponytail. You can keep the ponytail straight, or to fancy it up, curl the ponytail with a curling iron for a sassy, fun look.

5) Put the hair into a ponytail like #4. Then put it into what I call a coil bun. If your hair is already thick, then you don't need to tease the ponytail, unless you want a bigger bun. If you have thin hair like me, or my hair model, I would suggest teasing the ponytail a little bit to make the bun a little bigger. You don't have to tease it, but it will make your hair look fuller.
Tease or leave the hair unteased, then twist the hair pretty tight. Then wrap around the ponytail to make a bun. Pin and position hair to your liking.
Congrats! You just did the Dutch Braided Headband!
